Beth was with a group of children in the room and with chalk, drew circles putting the numbers 1 to 10 in each. The children followed the numbers stepping in the middle of each. Once they reached number 10, they walked back to the beginning and started again. We all counted the numbers together as they were following each numbered circle. One of the children asked to play hopscotch. Beth showed them how to play and then the children followed her along, walked back to the beginning and started again. Beth then drew different patterns: zigzags, squiggly lines and foot prints. The children walked through the squiggly line then down the footprints and along the zigzags although some children chose one to do continuously.
A parent suggested to draw different coloured circles and have the children find the colour called out. The children ran to each and stood in the middle. Beth then added squares, triangles and stars. The children were able to find the different shapes and colours and helped each other. A few were in the same shape giving each other cuddles. #MathsWeekScot
